Maniruzzaman Named Chair of the Department of Pharmaceutics and Drug Delivery

We are excited to welcome Dr. Mohammed Maniruzzaman as professor and chair of the Department of Pharmaceutics and Drug Delivery and research professor in the Research Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy! He will officially begin Sept. 1, 2023.

“I am thrilled that Dr. Maniruzzaman will be leading the Department of Pharmaceutics and Drug Delivery. He brings a commitment to faculty, staff and student success, a passion for innovation in both teaching and research and a collaborative spirit,” said pharmacy Dean Donna Strum. “I am confident that his leadership and experience will serve the department and school well, and I am looking forward to working with him to advance our missions, ultimately improving patient care.”

Dr. Maniruzzaman comes to the University of Mississippi from the University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy, where he has been serving as a Bauerle Centennial Professorship Fellow and an assistant professor in Molecular Pharmaceutics and Drug Delivery. Prior to this, he was a lecturer in Pharmaceutics and Drug Delivery at the University of Sussex, UK. He received a bachelor’s degree in pharmaceutical sciences and a Ph.D. in pharmaceutical technology from the University of Greenwich, UK.

Dr. Maniruzzaman is an accomplished researcher with extensive experience in pharmaceutical process engineering, continuous manufacturing and 3D printing of medicines, including biologics and mRNA therapeutics. He has authored/co-authored more than 85 articles, 3 books, and 21 patent and patent applications, secured significant funding from federal and non-federal sources and invented multiple proprietary technologies.

Having the opportunity to lead this dynamic and visionary team as the next chair is a real privilege,” said Maniruzzaman. “I look forward to working with colleagues both within the department and school as well as across the university.”

We are grateful to Dr. Michael Repka for his leadership as chair for 17 years and to Dr. Jit Majumdar for serving as interim chair this past year. Dr. Repka will continue to serve as distinguished professor and director of the Pii Center for Pharmaceutical Technology, and Dr. Majumdar will continue in his role as associate dean for Research and Graduate Education.
