The Research Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, or RIPS, was established in 1964 to discover and disseminate knowledge of natural drug products, develop and commercialize new products, improve public health and stimulate the economy. Research conducted by RIPS faculty and research scientists helps Mississippi industries to enhance their competitiveness and contributes to the economic development of the state.
RIPS comprises five centers:
The internationally-renowned National Center for Natural Products Research was founded in 1995 to research, develop and commercialize potentially useful natural products. Based at the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy, NCNPR collaborates with academia, government and the pharmaceutical and agrochemical industries to create natural products that can be used to improve human health and agriculture as crops, pharmaceuticals, dietary supplements and agrochemicals.
The National Center for Cannabis Research and Education fosters and conducts scientific research, data analysis, education and training on the health effects of cannabis. NCCRE researchers and leaders will aid in policymaking and outreach as state programs emerge.
The Center for Clinical and Translational Science serves as a catalyst for the clinical and translational sciences between the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy and UMMC. CCTS will facilitate the translation of basic research discoveries into clinically validated therapies to improve the health of populations in Mississippi and beyond.
The Center for Pharmaceutical Marketing and Management is a research center of excellence that advances research, teaching, and service in the areas of medication use and health outcomes, management of pharmacy organizations, and the marketing and utilization of appropriate medications in all segments of the healthcare industry.
The Pii Center conducts interdisciplinary drug and polymer research that provides end-stage pharmaceutical products directed at therapeutic conditions, vaccines, antidotes and wound care. Utilizing cutting edge thermal processing, the Pii Center collaborates with private industry, government and academia to develop new, improved and expanded drug delivery systems.
