This is part one of an eight-part series, as the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy focuses on its eight core values.

“The values we uphold are the heart of who we are, the Ole Miss Pharmacy phamily, a community of educators, researchers and student pharmacists working together for our community, our patients and our profession.” –Dean David D. Allen

Collaboration: By fostering a spirit of teamwork and partnership that is founded on respect for the contributions of others, we seek to create interdisciplinary, synergistic relationships characterized by inclusiveness and flexibility.

Student pharmacist Sidney D’Amico on collaboration…

“We have a lot of intraprofessional programs, such as working with the nursing school and dietetics majors. We are also working with the law school to do a mock trial. It’s been a way to learn about different fields and still see where Sidney D'Amicopharmacy can impact those fields. We will do a simulation every year with nursing, dietetics and CSD majors, and it is really neat to see the different roles the different healthcare professionals have in a hospital setting.

“For collaboration within the pharmacy school, we have several different ‘genres’ of pharmacy, like pharmacy practice, biomedical sciences and pharmaceutics. All of those different components help to create that full pharmacist. That’s been something that has been nice to see in the School of Pharmacy. We have so many diverse faculty that have different backgrounds, but they all work so well together to create a full, compact learning environment.”

Collaboration at Ole Miss Pharmacy…

Student Pharmacists Shine at the Jackson Free Clinic

Lauren Pohl working at the Jackson Free ClinicJACKSON, Miss. – Imagine, if you will, a place where medical students and pharmacy students give up their Saturdays to work collegially, teach and learn from each other, and provide uninsured patients with vital medical care. That place is the Jackson Free Clinic (JFC) in Jackson, Miss.

The clinic is a nonprofit organization run by students at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Its mission is to provide high-quality health services — including exams, treatment, testing, prescription medications, education, and preventive care — to uninsured community members. The JFC also provides an innovative environment where pharmacy students can demonstrate the value pharmacists bring to an interdisciplinary care team.
