Policies

  • NMR facility is available for all students, research scientists, and external users. All users are treated equally.
  • Only trained people are allowed to use the facility. Additional training is required for 600 MHz spectrometer. All new users must contact NMR facility manager directly to schedule the initial training session.
  • Do not change the settings of the instrumentation unless you are authorized to do so.
  • In case of the problem immediately contact the NMR manager describing the details of the problem.
  • Report all violations to the NMR facility manager.
  • Multiple Violations will lead to “refusal of access” to the facility.
  • Repair and opportunity cost (downtime of the system used for the maintenance) will be billed directly to the user/Principal investigator who caused the problem.
  • Users are responsible for their data. All spectra must be saved in appropriate folder on the computer and transferred promptly to their computer using remote connection or portable media.
  • Do not leave your samples once experiment your experiments have been finished. Unlabeled, broken samples, as well as those which were left unattended for more than 5 days will be discarded.
  • Users must follow the instructions of the staff.
  • All users must follow standard lab safety protocols. No food or drink is allowed in the facility at any time.

      Reservation

A reservation is required for the NMR services. The Infinity scheduling system developed by Idea Elan is used for NMR reservations. Please register or log in to request for services and to create and manage NMR reservations. Authentication using your Ole Miss web ID and password is required.

Users can only reserve for their own use and not for someone else. Users who scheduled will be billed for the service used.

      Cancellation

Reservation can be cancelled 15 min prior the reservation. If the user missed the reservation for more than 15 minutes, remainder of time slot will be available to other users for the reservations.

      Training

      • Training is performed by the NMR facility manager. Users must follow the instructions of the staff.
      • A refresher course is required if you did not use the facility for more than 12 month.
      • Certain types of experiments, which are not included in the basic training require additional training session which should be scheduled separately.

      Acknowledgments

Co-authorship is appreciated and may be requested in the following instances: significant intellectual contribution to experimental design, analysis and/or interpretation of data, and preparation of data for the purpose of publication.

It is also expected that users will let the NMR facility staff know if the data obtained with the NMR is used in grant applications.

      Education and Outreach

NMR facility supports education of students at various levels. Advanced NMR can be incorporated into the graduate and undergraduate coursed. Theory and hands-on and practical session for students s are available. A graduate course on advanced NMR is offered at School of Pharmacy at the University of Mississippi: https://pharmacy.olemiss.edu/biomolecularnmr/courses/

NMR facility also supports STEM education and encourages participation of the students from community colleges and K-12 schools. Core is open for collaboration with students, teachers, and faculty in order to assist with development of research projects and providing access to the instrument. This approach aims to gain interest of the young students in STEM field and providing access to the modern instrumentation.

Please contact NMR facility staff for educational opportunities.

      Scheduling a Tour

Core staff host variety of tours to the NMR facility to provide demonstration of capabilities of the instrumentation or for educational purposes for interested users including K-12 students, teachers, external researchers, college students, and faculty. Please contact us for additional information or for scheduling a tour.
