Honors College recognizes top achievers in health professional programs

UMSOP Student pharmacists being honored as members of the UMMC Honors College

Jackson, Miss. – Ten students from the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy and students from the six health professional schools were among 80 honorees at the inaugural University of Mississippi Medical Center Honors College awards program recognizing academic excellence. The Honors College brings together high-achieving students from across UMMC’s health professional programs, fostering an interprofessional learning community focused on collaboration, leadership, and excellence in patient-centered care.

“The UMMC Honors College exemplifies the power of interprofessional education by bringing together outstanding students from across the health professions to learn with, from, and about one another,” said Dr. Donna Strum, dean of the School of Pharmacy. “These pharmacy students demonstrated exceptional academic achievement and a commitment to collaborative practice, and we are proud to see them so well represented in this first-ever UMMC Honors College awards ceremony.”

Honorees received a medallion and certificate of achievement from Dr. Scott Rodgers, associate vice chancellor for academic affairs and Dr. Natalie Gaughf, assistant vice chancellor for academic affairs.

  • Nicholas Dean

Students selected for the year-long program must be in the top 25 percent of their programs, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, and be full-time students enrolled in the pharmacy program or eligible UMMC degree programs that are at least three years in length.

Degree programs eligible for the Honors College are Doctor of Pharmacy, Doctor of Audiology, Doctor of Dental Medicine, Doctor of Health Administration, Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Nursing Practice, Doctor of Occupational Therapy, Doctor of Philosophy, and Doctor of Physical Therapy.
