UM Graduate Student Chapters Win International Awards

OXFORD, Miss. – Two University of Mississippi graduate student chapters have been recognized with high honors at international meetings.

Students from the UM chapters of the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research, or ISPOR, and the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists, or AAPS, recently brought home awards.

The graduate student-led ISPOR chapter won the 2023 ISPOR Outstanding Student Chapter Collaborators Award, among more than 140 ISPOR student chapters around the world. This is the second time the UM chapter has won the award.

The UM ISPOR chapter has excelled at collaborating and building partnerships with health economics and outcomes research, or HEOR, communities. The chapter continues to partner with other schools of pharmacy and industry professionals to provide HEOR training opportunities. Yi Yang, professor and chair of the Department of Pharmacy, is the group’s faculty advisor.

The Ole Miss AAPS chapter won the organization’s top honor in receiving the AAPS Chapter of the Year Award.

The award recognizes chapters that have provided exceptional service and outreach to the next generation of scientists and pharmaceutical professionals. Chapters at schools and universities around the world help students connect with AAPS member scientists, build their professional networks and tap into meaningful career advice.

The UM AAPS student chapter is specifically recognized for its commitment to fostering a vibrant and well-rounded educational experience for its members, including offering workshops and seminars to promote professional development and for member involvement in the Hands-On Course on Tablet Technology, a nationally-recognized skill development course in tableting.

Mo Maniruzzaman, professor and chair of the Department of Pharmaceutics and Drug Delivery, is the faculty advisor for the chapter. The student leadership will receive their award at the AAPS annual meeting in Salt Lake City, Utah, later this month.
