Bio:
Shishir Maharjan is a graduate student at the Department of Pharmacy Administration, University of Mississippi. He completed his Masters with a thesis entitled, “Opioid Tapering and Mental Health Crisis in Older Adults.” Currently, he is working as a data analyst at the Center for Pharmaceutical Marketing and Management and also working as a Research Assistant on a grant related to the safety and effectiveness of opioid tapering among older adults. In addition, he also has two years of working experience as a Market Researcher Officer in a pharmaceutical company back in his country, Nepal. He envisages himself as a health economics and outcomes researcher working in a pharmaceutical company or consulting firm.

Dr. Bhattacharya’s research interests include disease burden estimation, cancer survivorship, end-of-life care, pharmacoepidemiologic and pharmacoeconomic research using large administrative databases, quality of care measurement, and patient-centered outcomes. He has extensive experience conducting evaluations using administrative claims and registry data, in diverse disease areas including cancer, cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, mental illnesses, obesity, gastrointestinal diseases, and hemophilia. He has been involved in research projects funded by government agencies and pharmaceutical industry, and is actively involved in AMCP, PQA, APHA, and ISPOR scientific societies.

Saumil’s thesis involves determining strategies adopted by community pharmacist to improve the immunization rate for the influenza vaccine. Other projects he is working on include cost-effectiveness model for upadacitinib, impact of Covid-19 pandemic on pharmacy graduate students, and trends in PPI prescribing. His career goals at the moment are to work in a market access company or work with big data analysis companies, and eventually own a consulting firm.
