UM Pharmacy Educator Recognized for Service to AACP, Special Interest Group

Haines recognized for contributions at national conference

OXFORD, Miss. — University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy professor Seena Haines has been recognized with the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy’s Outstanding Contributions to Self-Care and Nonprescription Medicines Award.

Haines was presented with the award at the AACP Annual Meeting in Aurora, Colorado, in July. The award is presented to a member of the group who has demonstrated sustained contribution in service, scholarship and teaching in the area of self-care therapeutics/nonprescription medications.

Haines is chair of pharmacy practice and director of professional wellbeing and belonging at the UM School of Pharmacy.

“This is a huge honor and I’m humbled by it,” Haines said. “One of my passion areas is faculty development, and through my involvement with the group, I’ve been able to affect faculty growth across academics.”

Haines’s leadership of the nonprescription medicine special interest group covers nearly 20 years.

Early on, Haines was co-editor of scholarly research and a member of the group’s steering committee when it became the Non Prescription Medicine Academy. Haines later led efforts to move the group under AACP’s umbrella and served as the group’s inaugural chair under AACP.

Both Haines and Jenny Van Amburgh, assistant dean of academic affairs of Northeastern University in Boston, were recognized for 16 years of service to the group with the AACP award. Haines and Van Amburgh have served in numerous roles through the years, including as co-chairs and editors for annual meeting scholarly submissions.

Haines stepped down from the group’s leadership in May 2022, though she remains a passionate voice for their efforts.

“We are so proud of Dr. Haines,” said Donna Strum, dean of the School of Pharmacy. “I am thrilled that she is being recognized for her experience and expertise.”

Haines joined the Ole Miss faculty in 2016. She teaches pharmacy practice at the school’s Jackson campus and began leading professional well-being efforts for pharmacy faculty and students in 2022.

Prior to joining the Ole Miss faculty, Haines was a professor and associate dean for faculty at Palm Beach Atlantic University Gregory School of Pharmacy in West Palm Beach, Florida. She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy from Nova Southeastern University in Davie, Florida.
