Paul Boudreau is an Assistant Professor of Pharmacognosy in the School of Pharmacy. Dr. Boudreau worked as an undergraduate researcher in Prof. Rick L. Danheiser’s lab at MIT, receiving his B.S. in Chemistry in 2009. He conducted his graduate work with Prof. William “Bill” H. Gerwick at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, defending his Ph.D. thesis “Orthogonality in Natural Products Workflows” in 2015. Joining the laboratory of Prof. Emily P. Balskus as a postdoctoral researcher he worked there until his appointment at Ole Miss in 2019.
Research in the Boudreau lab focuses on bacterial natural products chemistry, using mass spectrometry and other tools to probe the role of these compounds in shaping bacterial community structure. This work aims to harness natural products as tools and therapeutics to improve human health and treat disease. Specific projects in the Boudreau lab include studying marine bacterial symbioses, exploring the biomineralization of toxic metals by bacteria, and probing the role of bacterial lipids in host immune regulation. Students interested in joining the lab should reach out to Prof. Boudreau directly through e-mail, undergraduates interested in an honors thesis project should view available projects in the Boudreau lab on the Undergraduate Research Database.
