Noa Valcarcel-Ares received her Bachelor of Sciences in Biology in 2007 and her Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences from the University of A Coruña in 2014. Her graduate research focused on the understanding of the involvement of mitochondrial dysfunction in the inflammatory response of rheumatoid arthritis. For her postdoctoral research, Noa joined the Reynolds Oklahoma Center on Aging, at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. There, her research interests focused on the mechanisms of vascular cognitive impairment in the elderly. Specifically, she tried to unravel the consequences of the age-related functional deterioration of the cerebral microvasculature in regards to cognition, and how some nutritional supplements could be potentially used with therapeutic purposes.
During her time on research, she became passionate about the scholarship of teaching and learning. She taught in different graduate and undergraduate level courses, and completed the Preparing Future Faculty program at the University of Oklahoma. In 2017, Noa began her instructor appointment in the Department of BioMolecular Sciences at the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy.
