SSHP Chapter Wins Professional Development Award
OXFORD, Miss. – The School of Pharmacy highlighted its commitment to advancing pharmacy practice and fostering professional development at the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists Midyear Clinical Meeting and Exhibition in New Orleans, Louisiana.
The Ole Miss Student Society of Health-System Pharmacists chapter was recognized with the prestigious ASHP Outstanding Professional Development Award for the 2024-2025 academic year.
The chapter was one of 10 nationwide to receive the award, which is given to student chapters exhibiting excellence in their professional development and outreach activities to advance the profession.
“This organization has opened a lot of doors for me and given me the opportunity to advance both my academic and professional careers,” said Kenna Hutto, SSHP chapter president. “I am honored that our chapter was recognized for this award because it highlights our students’ and faculty's commitment to advancing the field of pharmacy.”
Advisors for the student chapter are Anastasia Jenkins, clinical associate professor of pharmacy practice, and Josh Fleming, clinical associate professor.
Jenkins was invited to present a podium presentation at the meeting, highlighting the work of the Mississippi Society of Health-System Pharmacists in practice advancement initiatives over the last two years.
“Mississippi has been commended by ASHP for our work in advancing practice throughout the state, especially in the areas of transitions of care and residency expansion,” Jenkins said. “It was incredible to be invited to join New York and North Dakota and share our successes.”
Ole Miss pharmacy students showcased their research through 16 diverse posters, highlighting the school’s dedication to fostering research and scholarship among students. Faculty, preceptors and residents also contributed to the meeting by presenting their research and delivering continuing education sessions that demonstrated their expertise and leadership in pharmacy practice.
During the conference, the School of Pharmacy co-sponsored the Mississippi Reception during the conference, which drew a robust turnout of faculty, staff, students, residents, preceptors and alumni. This event served as a vibrant celebration of community, providing attendees with opportunities to network and strengthen professional ties.
Faculty leaders said the SSHP recognition from ASHP and the student and resident success at the ASHP Midyear Meeting demonstrates the school’s ongoing dedication to educating future leaders in pharmacy and advancing pharmacy practice.
