Department of Pharmaceutics and Drug Delivery
The University of Mississippi

Message from the Chair

Thank you for visiting the website of the Department of Pharmaceutics and Drug Delivery. PDD, located in Oxford, Mississippi, is one of four academic departments in the School of Pharmacy at the University of Mississippi. PDD faculty expertise spans the broad discipline of pharmaceutics including preformulation, formulation development, pharmacokinetics, and manufacturing process development. PDD laboratories, located in Faser Hall and the Thad Cochran Research Center, are equipped with an extensive array of laboratory and pilot scale processing equipment for the preparation of a variety of dosage forms including solid oral and topical dosage forms. Several government agencies and private companies fund research in PDD, and the department is internationally recognized for expertise in hot melt extrusion technology.

PDD’s professional and graduate courses prepare students for challenging positions in academia, government and industry. Our graduate programs are designed to provide both basic and applied understanding of pharmaceutics, and opportunities for students to learn and conduct research in a multidisciplinary environment. PDD’s postgraduate education program, the Hands-On Tablet Course provides an extensive overview of conventional and advanced manufacturing technologies.

The Pii Center for Pharmaceutical Technology, managed by PDD faculty, is one of four research centers in the Research Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Research in the Pii Center focuses on interdisciplinary, applied drug/polymer research using advanced thermal processing.
