What you can do to prepare now!
- STUDY for the ACT and SAT! The higher your score, the better your chances of being accepted to the Early Entry Program, and the more financial aid you will be eligible for.
- Take AP and Honors Science courses if any are offered at your school. These courses should prepare you for the rigorous science classes you will be required to take as a Pre-Pharmacy student at The University of Mississippi. A strong science foundation will be beneficial when you take higher level pharmacy classes.
- Get Involved! Participating in extracurricular activities will help you to learn time management, how to work with different groups and individuals, and communication skills. Join a club that interests you and get involved in a community service activity that you truly care about. If you have the opportunity to work a part time job, go for it! This involvement outside of the classroom will make you even more marketable as an Early Entry Pharmacy Candidate.
- Shadow a Pharmacist. If you have the opportunity, shadow or interview a local pharmacist to see what he or she does on a daily basis. This will give you the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about pharmacy as a profession and determine if it is the right career for you.
Early Entry Requirements:
- Academic Score
- ACT Composite 25; ACT Math 25
- SAT (M+V) 1130 or (M+V+Writing) 1700
- Minimum GPA 2.5
- Academic Score Formula: (GPA x 10) + ACT Composite ≥ 65

- Work: Having a job demonstrates time management skills, which will help you in developing a strong work ethic and it also shows responsibility. Jobs might include working at a local restaurant, babysitting, or mowing the lawns in your neighborhood. Pharmacy specific work is not required to be considered for the Early Entry Program, but learning more about what pharmacists do on a day to day basis might provide some insight to pharmacy as a career.
- Leadership: Leadership is one of the core values of the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy. According to our core values, “leaders take initiative and have the ability to inspire, enable, instill confidence, build a shared vision, and connect with others through mutual trust.” You might demonstrate leadership by holding an officer position in a club, staring a new organization, or by exhibiting this trait in your community or a local religious organization.
- Service: Pharmacists are responsible for promoting health and wellness in their local communities. As you prepare for pharmacy school, engage in service activities and work for causes that mean something to you. For example, if you are interested in literacy, volunteer for an after school program that provides tutoring for younger students.
- Interview
- When you come to campus for an Applicant Day, you will participate in a 15 minute interview with one faculty member and a current pharmacy student. The interview is designed to get to know you and evaluate your communication skills.
