Dr. Chougule’s research focuses on investigates the co-delivery of therapeutic agent, siRNA, proteins and targeted nanotechnology based formulations for treatment of cancer and pulmonary disorders. We apply drug and gene delivery, biopharmaceutics, bioengineering, pharmacokinetic, molecular biology, pharmacodynamics, and bioimaging techniques to improve understanding of drugs or nanocarriers therapeutic effect.   His group is designing a new generation of nanoparticles with “magic bullet” platform, which could recognize the location of disease cells and selectively deliver drugs and genes to exert effect at disease site while sparing normal healthy tissues.  The ongoing projects of Chougule’s Translational Drug Delivery Research (TransDDR) Group include:

  • Multi-target based small molecule inhibitors, gene or natural product based combination therapies
  • Targeted inhalation delivery of drugs and siRNA using bio-engineered polymeric or lipidic nanoparticles for the treatment of lung cancer and asthma
  • Tumor-responsive natural and bio-engineered polymeric nanocarrier based delivery of drugs, proteins, and/or siRNA for cancer
  • Delivery of Immunomodulatory agents for inflammatory disorders including skin diseases
