Welcome from the Dean
The University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy was established in 1908 to meet the needs of Mississippi for highly qualified pharmacists. That mission has greatly expanded over the years, and today the School of Pharmacy has earned national and international recognition for accomplishments in education; basic, translational, and clinical research; and professional and community service.
Our curriculum is cutting edge, and our students are fully engaged in learning how to provide patient-centered care to ensure that patients achieve optimal outcomes of their medication therapy. Graduates of our M.S. and Ph.D. degree programs in the Pharmaceutical Sciences are well prepared for academic positions and research positions in the pharmaceutical, chemical, and agrochemical industries, as well as in government and research institutions.
Our faculty members are highly qualified and carefully chosen. They are genuinely committed to student learning and student welfare, and they are also highly productive in the research arena. They provide leadership within their disciplines. They are also dedicated to improving health through teaching and the generation and dissemination of new knowledge. They also work to advance the profession of pharmacy, their disciplines, and the University.
Over the last 15 years external funding has been received for renovation of old facilities and construction of new ones. The first two years of the professional pharmacy program are based in Oxford, in modern, state-of-the-art facilities. For the third professional year, our students move to our new pharmacy education and research building that opened in early 2012 on the campus of the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, while the fourth year is spent on rotations. We’ve recently added a fourth research center to our Research Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences called the Center for Clinical and Translational Science, designed to facilitate clinical research.
I hope that you will take some time to explore this site to learn more about the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy, and I hope that you will be able to visit with us in Oxford or Jackson soon to learn more about our envisioned future.
